FAQ
Why do you only sell by subscription?
Subscriptions are a convenient way to make sure you always get the freshest bread on a day that suits you, while simultaneously providing a small business the predictable revenue it needs to grow. As a sign of gratitude for making a prepaid purchase of bread, all subscriptions include a discount. If the subscription model is successful look out for more ways to buy bread, including single purchases. We are now selling spare loaves!
How do subscriptions work exactly?

A bread subscription means you pay in advance for multiple weeks' worth of bread and choose what day of the week you want to collect it. For example: if you select Every 4 weeks on Tuesday, you will pay for 4 loaves of bread at once, but you will collect only 1 loaf each Tuesday.
Bread is always supplied weekly. The only choices you need to make are:
- Collection day
- This is the day your bread will be baked and will be available for collection.
- This is the day your bread will be baked and will be available for collection.
- Payment frequency
- How many weeks' worth of bread you want to pay for in advance ("prepayment").
- Tip: the more you choose, the cheaper each loaf of bread gets.
- Quantity
- How many loaves you want on collection day each week.
- Tip: Use the quantity selector when configuring your subscription in the store.
What happens if I go on holiday?
If you whatever reason you aren't around to receive your bread, you can simply skip a week. For details on how to do this see How to manage your subscription.
What days can I collect?
Initially we will only be baking on Tuesday and Friday each week. Occasionally these days might need to be shifted for personal reasons (holiday etc.) but we will try to give you as much notice as possible and reschedule the bake days.
How often do I get my bread?
You will get it every week on your chosen day. Initially we are only offering weekly intervals.
What time will my bread be available for collection?
We aim to get all bread baked by 12pm. But you will get an email telling you exactly when it is ready for collection.
Can I have more than one loaf of bread each week?
Yes, just use the quantity selector when creating your subscription.
Where do I collect?
There is a collection box located at 15 Martineau Lane, Hurst, RG100SF. Your order will be inside in a brown bag labelled with your surname. Note: it's one loaf per bag, so if you order multiple loaves, expect to collect multiple bags.
Alternatively, you can collect from Barn Built Fitness near Wokingham.
Can I buy pastries?
Please contact us directly to arrange. Alternatively look out for a Jack's Bread pop-up location in the village. Note: pastries will normally be baked as a weekend treat.
Can I buy a single loaf?
Because we are a micro bakery and make everything to order, we are unable to offer ad-hoc bread sales through the website. But we have recently introduced what is called the "spare loaf" system, allowing you to buy a single loaf (without a subscription) when we have excess capacity.
Single loaves will also be available to purchase in person e.g. at pop-up bakery, shops or markets.
Do you sell half-loaves?
Yes! On the product listing page, you can now select "Full loaf" or "Half loaf".
Can I buy white/granary or other type of bread?
Not yet. Over the coming weeks more recipes will be added to the website. We want to make sure all our recipes are perfected before they are on sale. If you want to help by being a taster, just drop us a message.
Is your bread organic?
Not yet but we will add this as an option soon. Note: Prices are likely to be higher to reflect the higher price of organic flour.
Do you deliver?
Not yet but watch this space. Note: in special circumstances bread can be delivered to close neighbours e.g. during a dog walk :)
How do I sign up to the newsletter?
